More about the charity

HCL is a charitable company which was formed during 2012 to take over responsibility for running the library in Haddenham in partnership with Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC). In 2010, faced with a requirement to reduce library funding, BCC proposed a community partnership arrangement whereby a number of smaller libraries should be taken over and run by their local communities. The County Library Service undertook to provide support in the form of resource grants, provision of book and other stocks and continued access to the centralised library IT system.

HCL has been able to retain the services of a librarian and an assistant who are supported by a team of some 40 volunteers. Over and above present funding, HCL has a constant need to seek further sources of income to maintain the best possible service to library users.
