Star Fundraisers in September
We’re taking the time to congratulate our star fundraisers this month! These are people who have taken on incredible challenges for charity or who have raised amazing amounts through their fundraising.
Every month we’ll award the superstar fundraiser title to one team and they’ll be on the shortlist for an extra £1,000 donation to their charity at our 2016 MaD Awards. Get ready to be inspired…
Phil Cox took on an Ironman triathlon with a twist this summer – swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and then finishing with a gruelling row of 26.2 miles! All this hard work was for a great cause though, with Phil raising money for different activities and new equipment for The 14 Club. After months of training, Phil managed to complete the epic event in 13 hours 20 minutes – although he admitted he spent rather a lot of time at the feed station! Most importantly, he managed to raise £2,690 for The 14 Club – congratulations!

Two very brave cyclists took on the ultimate cycling challenge – cycling the Stelvio Pass in Italy. Rising up to 2,757 metres above sea level, the Stelvio Pass is just 13 metres short of being the highest road in the Alps. As Andrew commented, ‘Outside of the pro riders, only an idiot would attempt to ride a bike up it’ – but that’s exactly what they did! The ride distance was 24.3km and there was a total climb of 1808m, with 48 hairpin turns along the way – and the team completed all that in 2 hours 45 minutes! Raising money for Cyclists Fighting Cancer, Squadra Ticciano managed to raise a brilliant £2,000!

Keira went for the unconventional approach to fundraising – deciding to throw herself out of a plane in aid of Cancer Research UK! After losing her Dad earlier this year to esophageal cancer, she decided it would be the best way to honour her Dad and would help raise money for a cure at the same time. The skydive was a great success – Keira claims it was the most amazing thing she’s ever done and it was made all the more special by the fact that her Dad was so proud of her for doing it. Keira’s bravery managed to raise a fantastic £1,510 for Cancer Research UK – well done Keira!

Niall was determined to raise money for the fantastic charity, Action Medical Research – which is dedicated to helping sick babies and children. Passionate about the cause, Niall decided to challenge himself with a 100 mile bike ride in order to raise money. Cycling through London and Surrey, it was a tough challenge for new cyclist Niall with various hills to contend with too! He aimed to complete the ride in 6 hours, but on the day surpassed his expectations, finishing in 5 hours 8 minutes! Plus, he raised £1,861 for Action Medical Research – great effort Niall!

Make a Donation ambassador and Paralympics Gold Medalist, Naomi Riches, took on a new challenge for charity this summer. Teaming up with her friend, Nigel, they completed the 100 mile Ride London on a tandem! It took months of training and preparation and there were plenty of challenges along the way. However, they managed to complete the ride, feeling overwhelming pride when they crossed the finish line on The Mall! And even better – they managed to raise a massive £4,490 for their chosen charity, Cycling Projects!
