Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People are launching a new appeal to support the fantastic work they do – providing life-changing partnerships for deaf people.
Since the charity was set up, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People have created nearly 2,000 partnerships between deaf people and hearing dogs in the UK, with around 1,000 working partnerships currently. The charity trains hearing dogs to alert deaf children and adults to important household sounds and danger signals – from the alarm clock or the doorbell ringing to the smoke alarm. Amazingly, the dogs can even alert a deaf person to the call of a family member!
Since deafness isn’t visible, it can be a very isolating and lonely disability. A hearing dog can offer life-transforming help – giving the recipient greater independence, increased confidence, companionship and a feeling of security.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People provide these incredible hearing dogs to deaf people at no charge, yet they don’t receive any government funding either – they rely on the generosity of individuals, groups, companies and other organisations.
Training is a long process, as each dog is trained to the specific needs of the deaf individual they have been matched to – it takes around 12-14 months to complete socialising training and another 16-18 weeks for sound-work training. All in all, it costs around £45,000 to train each dog.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People desperately need your support so they can continue providing this brilliant service for deaf people across the UK. Why not start sponsoring a puppy today and help change someone’s life?
Or simply donate to their fundraising page – every little helps and we’ll ensure that they receive every last penny of your donation…
