Here is Emma’s Fundraising Story!

How I got to do a Marathon

In August this year I decided after not too much deliberation, I was just going to ‘go for it’ and apply for some charity places in the London Marathon. Part of me never expected to be given the opportunity but low and behold at the end of September I received an e-mail from Clic Sargent to say I had been successful in getting my place. The surge of different emotions that went through me was indescribable but more importantly ‘It just got real’.

My Story

I haven’t always been a natural athlete, those of you who know me well have seen my taste of fame with national rowing at about the age of 16.  Life took over, it was no surprise I steadily gained a lot of weight, became incredibly lazy and even found going on a short walk a mission.

In 2011 due to a massive change in my life style, after a divorce from a horrific 10 year relationship, I found an interest in exercise again and developed a love for going to the gym. I was thrown a few more tough blows the toughest blow of all came last when I lost my wonderful father in a fatal para-motoring accident whilst flying in France. My Father was my rock and he always encouraged and supported me. From then on my life spiralled. I developed incredibly unhealthy eating habits and was diagnosed in 2012 with ‘anorexia’ I may not have visibly looked to be suffering but mentally it was taking over. Finally I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and to top it off, OCD.

With support of my nearest and dearest, and the love of my partner and my beautiful children, I decided it couldn’t carry on this way anymore, and started making serious positive changes. Every day is tough in different ways, some days I am clear headed and others are a fog it will never just go away but I can dictate how much of my life it takes over. I am back in control.

Running Positive

With my running it’s a focus… I can give something back to help others and most importantly you can help me. I’m going to share with you all my highs and lows over the next few months, every ache and niggle but also my successes.

How Can You Help?

Keep me motivated in training! If you ever want to join me, cycle with me, ride with me I am here. My medical cupboard is stacked with every single, Heat/cold pack, blister plasters, pain killers and even anti chaffing cream!!

Dig deep, every penny helps this wonderful charity, you can give something back even from your sofa. You can give to my Marathon for Clic Sargent 100% Fee Free via my Make-a-Donation page http://www.make-a-donation.org/fundraisers/emma-mclauchlan
